Definition of Biological Products Section 351, Public Health Services (PHS) ACt
The term “Biological products” means a virus, therapeutic serum, toxin, antitoxin, vaccine, blood, blood component or derivative, allergenic product, protein (except any chemically synthetized polypeptide), or analogous product, or arsphenamine or its derivatives (or any other trivalent organic arsenic compound), applicable to the prevention, treatment or cure of a disease or condition of human beings.
What is a Biological Product?
Biological products, or biologics, are medical products.
Biological products could be made of sugars, proteins, or nucleic acids or complex combinations of these substances, or may be living entities such as cells and tissues.
Like drugs, biological products are used to either:
Treat or cure diseases and medical conditions.
Prevent diseases, or
Diagnose diseases
Biological products are made from a variety of natural sources.
